Multiple Picture Story

This is the photo story I decided to do on Sasquatch

Sasquatch music festival was held at the Gorge Amphitheatre in Eastern Washington, on May 29-31, 2010.

Patrick Fowler (top left), 22, and Lauren Hoston (right), 21, spent their Monday morning lounging in the campsite with their friend Cecil Wilcomb, 20. Fowler said he decided to bring a couch to Sasquatch because he knew he would want it at times like this. Hoston said they have spent a lot of time on the couch so far. “This is the kick it spot,” Hoston said.

Daniel Saldutti (right), 24, Christ Chin (second from right), 28, Crystal Davis (second from left), 25, and Forest Eckley (left), 28, spend their Monday morning eating and drinking at the dining room table they brought all the way from Seattle. Saldutti said they brought a lot of different tables and have used them to bring people together. “We are all about bringing people together,” Saldutti said. “We even have a flag at our campsite that says ‘camp unite’.” Saldutti said when they get back from Seattle they are going to design a base for the table and then try to sell it. Chin said the long dining room table catches peoples eye and brings them to the dance parties they have every night.

Josh Langland, 20, fills his flask with rum Monday morning in preparation for the day ahead of him. Langland said Sasquatch does not allow alcohol inside the concert area, so he had to stash it in a secret compartment in his backpack. “This is the first day I am bringing in alcohol because I have been too scared of getting caught,” Langland said.

(From left) Andy Whitcomb, 30, Derrick Frazier, 26, Crystal Davis, 25, Forest Eckley, 28, and Alisa Furoyama, 25, enjoy their Monday evening listening to MGMT at the main stage at the Gorge. Whitcomb said Sasquatch is a great place to hang out with friends, relax, and listen to some good music. Frazier said he likes meeting new people and enjoying the amazing view. “I am just taking in gods beauty,” Frazier said.

Among the line up at the Sasquatch music festival, MGMT played as the sun set on Monday, May 31.

Stand Alone Photo

The point of this assignment was to find a photo that could stand alone without an article to go with it.

Western students Jenessa Sneva, 19, and Emma Ranniger, 19, spent their sunny Monday afternoon in the back of their friend's pickup truck in downtown Bellingham, eating frozen yogurt and enjoying the rays. Ranniger said she got a text from her friends right when she got off work seeing if she wanted to get some "froyo" (what they call frozen yogurt). Sneva said they always talk about tailgating in their truck, but this was their first time doing it. "I think there will be more truck bed experiences to come," Sneva said.

Controlling Motion

The challenge for this assignment was to capture motion, whether it be panning, peak action, or blurred movement.

Makana Martini, 20, of Oahu, HI performs a traditional Polynesian Hula dance Tuesday night at the Paradise Cove Lu'au located in the Ko Olina Resort. Martini said she was born and raised on Oahu and has been dancing since she was seven years old. "I was raised around dance," Martini said. "It is a big part of the Polynesian culture."

Honest Emotion

The point of this assignment was to capture honest emotion.

Western freshman Josh Bird, 19, pumps some iron in the WWU Wade King student recreation center weight room. Bird said he works out about three times a week. “I like to stay in shape,” Bird said. “It is an exquisite facility so I am taking advantage of it.”

Personality/Environmental Portrait

This photo was taken for my personality/environmental portrait assignment, which entailed taking a photograph of someone in their environment, or in which you could see their personality.

Ranae Scott, 22, goes into what is known at the camel pose in yoga. Scott said she has been doing yoga for about four years and has been teaching a power yoga class at the WWU Wade King student recreation center for about a year. Scott said she plans on doing yoga for the rest of her life. “It exercises you mentally, physically, and spiritually,” Scott said.

Icebreaker Photo

This photo was taken for my Icebreaker assignment, which entailed taking head shots of several different people and asking them all the same question: What one thing would you never consume again and why?

William Follis, 85, of Bellingham, Wash., sits overlooking the bay at Boulevard Park on Sunday afternoon. Follis said he will never eat Rutabagas again after his experiences serving in WWII. “I was imprisoned by the Germans for nine months and that is pretty much all they gave me,” Follis said.

Icebreaker Photo

This photo was taken for my Icebreaker assignment, which entailed taking head shots of different people and asking all of them the same question: What one thing would you never consume again and why?

Simone Williams (Left), 4, and Sylas Williams, 2, spent Sunday afternoon running around together in their front yard, picking flowers and laughing at almost anything. Both Simone and Sylas said they disliked vegetables. “I don’t like vegetables because I don’t,” Sylas said.

Stephanie Battershell, 21, and Alesia Lau, 21, of Bellingham, Wash., spend a sunny Sunday afternoon relaxing on a blanket in Boulevard Park. Battershell said she will never consume a long-island ice tea again after having four of them for her 20th birthday. “I vomited for three hours and kept speaking in Japanese,” Battershell said. Lau said she will not ever drink tequila again after going out to dinner and having a few too many. “It was my first time drinking alcohol,” Lau said. “I got to see my really nice dinner in reverse.”
